Promoted Listings Unavailable Despite Account Being in Good Standing – Advice Needed
Summary: dailydealsukstore is a new eBay seller facing a temporary restriction on Promoted Listings despite their account being in good standing. They have two transaction defects and one late delivery, and a listing was previously removed due to policy violations. tressygirl advises that being a Top Rated Seller isn't necessary to regain access but suggests that the account needs to build a defect-free record first. john1297576 adds that a less than 2% defect rate is expected and advises closely managing defects and delivery issues. dailydealsukstore is seeking advice on how to improve their account and regain Promoted Listings access.
Hi everyone,
I’m hoping some experienced eBay sellers can help me understand my situation.
I’m a relatively new eBay seller and recently contacted eBay Support because I cannot see the Promoted Listings option for my listings.
I spoke with eBay Support, and they reviewed my account. They told me:
My account is currently in good standing.
I have 2 transactions with defects and 1 late delivery rate.
One previous listing, “Toe Nail Clippers Thick Long Handled Scissors Cutters,” was removed due to eBay’s Knives Policy.
My current active listings have no restrictions.
The Promoted Listings restriction is temporary.
They advised me to continue following eBay's selling and listing policies and work towards becoming a Top Rated Seller.
They said that once my performance improves, the relevant team can reconsider my access to Promoted Listings, subject to approval.
I understand that I made mistakes in the past and I’m taking this seriously. I want to make sure I build a clean selling record from now on.
My questions are:
Has anyone experienced a similar temporary restriction on Promoted Listings?
How long did it take before you regained access?
Do I need to become Top Rated Seller, or can Promoted Listings become available before reaching Top Rated status?
Is there anything specific I should focus on apart from avoiding further defects and late deliveries?
Is there somewhere in Seller Hub where I can see exactly what caused my 2 transaction defects and late delivery rate?
I’d really appreciate advice from experienced sellers who have been through something similar.
Thanks in advance!

Mentor2 weeks ago · EditedAccounts are reviewed monthly, so restriction will depend on how long ebay said, or just temporary ebay expect no more than a 2% defect rate, so to improve this can be difficult as a large increase in sales would be required.
You do not yet have 10 fb for selling so on that basis 2 defects would be at 20%. The item you failed to deliver, I presume you cancelled sale, but if using correct reason, that would give a defect.
To be Top Rated I think you have to be Registered as a Business Seller.
Anything that can give a defect should be avoided, any cases raised by buyers must be dealt with and not just hope it will go away.
Your Seller Dashboard should show what defects were for, late delivery to be avoided, but is very much outside your control.

OP2 weeks agoThanks John, that makes sense. I’m still relatively new, so I understand that the two defects have a bigger impact on my percentage at this stage. I’ll make sure I’m much more careful with stock availability, dispatch times and eBay policies going forward. I’ll also check my Seller Dashboard to understand exactly what caused each defect. Appreciate your advice.

Mentor2 weeks agoYou do not need to be a Top Rated Seller to promote items, but 2 defects , and you are a new seller this account only opened 4 months ago, is not an account in the good standing required to be able to promote for the time being.
You need to sell more items, receive no defects, there is no exact timeline, but show you are a good eBayer, and you will see the Promote option appear on the eligible items.
