Product recalls : EBay's responsibility and feedback for the seller

I have just had an E Mail from EBay about a product recall and they have advised me to contact the seller. Helpfully (not....) the E Mail was from an "unmonitored E Mail address".

Doing some research it appears EBay will not get involved and I must throw myself on the goodwill of the seller but we all know that once the 60 day time limit for feedback is past most sellers are no longer interested in keeping their customers happy. So, my point is that if the seller avoids his responsibilities what can I do ? It appears the answer is nothing.  Now here, in my view, is a classic example of where the customer should be able to put on feedback beyond the normal 60 day window or, if the buyer has already put on positive feedback they should be allowed to change it (with no time limit) because a seller absolving himself of any responsibility for selling dodgy (or even potentially dangerous) products is very serious and PROVES they are not worthy of positive feedback.

I really do not know what to do now as I have had another E Mail from E Bay (I had separately bought two of the products) :

We take product safety very seriously. We’re reaching out to you because an item you purchased may have been recalled or pose a safety hazard. We recommend that you stop using this product. If you have questions about the item(s), please reach out to the seller or the manufacturer. Item details are listed below. This item is recalled and is not permitted on eBay due to product safety concerns as shared on the https://ec.europa.eu/ website.

For more information about the recall associated with this product, please see the https://ec.europa.eu/ website below:

https://ec.europa.eu/

If you have any problems, we recommend that you contact the seller from your Purchase history and try to reach a resolution.

Item details: 405659195496 - 4 Multi-Port Fast Quick Charge USB Hub Mains UK Plug Adapter Wall Charger

If you have questions, please go to "Help & Contact" at the top of most eBay pages.

Thanks, eBay

Please don't reply to this message. It was sent from an address that doesn't accept incoming email.

The last line sums up just how helpful EBay really are....

Just to recap the seller E Mailed me (after the first EBay product recall E Mail) and said :

Our products are safe and pass the quality inspection, does not exist recalled and other unsafe problem.
Now This listing was removed due to system error or artificial intelligence mistake.
We have provided detailed information to ebay, Now ebay is trying to help us restore the listing.
Please don't worry. Your product can continue to be used normally 🙂

What am I supposed to do ? ! ?
It seems to me that EBay are just sending out these EMails to cover themselves, then washing their hands of it.

As your seller is presumably a business their current listings will have contact details on that don't involve ebay messages.

The seller may be telling the truth.  Safety recalls are published on .gov.uk.

Got another issue now....

The seller is saying there is no issue with the product, so I thought I'd send him the link (to the recall) that EBay sent me, but the system will not let me send a link

"It appears your message contains a link which is not allowed under our Member-to-member contact policy. For the safety of our users, we prohibit the use of links that take users off the eBay platform"

SAo I am not sure where to go next !

if the seller avoids his responsibilities what can I do ?

It all depends upon the time frame and how the buyer paid. After 30 days eBay won't get involved, but if they paid or funded their payment from a credit or debit card the card issuer may be able to help for around six months.

Failing that, unless buyers can get help direct from the manufacturer there's probably nothing they can do. Theoretically, buyers may be abe to use the online Money Claims Service, but there's no certainty of getting any money back from small, uncoperative, distant sellers. Unless there's a lot of money involved it's probably more realistic to bin the item and move on.

These are just some of the risks of buyig from unknown sellers on eBay. The user agreement warns buyers clearly that eBay does not guarantee the that descriptions will be truthful or accurate, or that items for sale will be safe, legal - or even exist.

Who would buy from a shop that stated this? Yet buyers constantly take the risk, particularly when buying from sellers in China where UK product safety requirements don't even apply. Buyers should read the user agreement. eBay is a jungle.

I agree with much of what you say, but the point about feedback is very significant. Feedback is what sellers need, and if buyers can give bad feedback that motivates sellers to "do their duty". The 60 day limit is the problem here, I have long argued it is way too short. I take the view that no EBay seller can be relied on to sort out anything after 60days so as a result I never buy anything off EBay where I want a guarantee over 60 days which, BTW, costs E Bay sellers significant income. The 60 day rule (and being unable to change previously given feedback) should definitely be waived for items subject to recall, DEFINITELY !

Have you tried contacting the manufacturers?

Ebay are just given details of recalled items, but it does not necessarily relate to the model you have.
