Potential buyer since 2019 but no feedback at all
Looking for some advice, listed fairly high value item and have potential buyer, due to item been electronics there is buyer protection but no seller one, potential buyer has no feedback at all but been a member on ebay since 2019 which I find it a little odd and not something I come a cross. Item is listed as collection only but any advice to protect my self as a seller? In event of sale buyer will test the item at my house and transaction will be completed at the time, will the funds be available in my account or will I have to wait for their feedback ect?

Mentor7 months agoI found this, but am sure buyers could never mark as collected, must be new.

Regards the right to cancel and refund eBay does show Collected once buyer press on it as I looked at it, one could argue the screenshot of it should be sufficient.
Don't know but personal opinion still strongly belive there should be some fail safe system where seller needs to be shown that code.
Main thing is I learned bit more how ebay operates now.

Mentor7 months agoYes! Once a buyer presses on collected! If they do !
That's my whole point, when would a buyer know this is necessary, or go back after a successful purchase to press said button. My argument stands, you cannot rely, you cannot enforce, a buyer to press on / select Collected.
Therefore, it has to be, that a collection code needs to be presented to a seller , then if the seller wishes, when NO collection code is presented, they should , and do have the option to cancel and refund, otherwise they could end up with a possible INR case, and nothing to prove otherwise.

OP7 months agoSo after reading few topics regards how all this operates now I do have a question where buyer wants to view the item before pressing buy it now. We already established we both happy to proceed with eBay transaction ect.
Obviously I can't provide address or any form of contact to facilitate that request before buyer press "buy now" but will the buyer be requested to pay for item straight away? Or can he press "buy now", get details for collection then pay after inspection ect.

Mentor7 months agoAs advised the buyer has to pay through checkout before address details can be exchanged.

Mentor7 months agoNo inspection is allowed before payment.
Buyer pays via ebay, you exchange contact info and arrange collection time.
Buyer comes, inspects item, if happy, gives you collection code.
If not happy, you refund them.
Do not let item go until you get collection code.
Best to message them before collection to remind them to bring code.

OP7 months agoTransaction completed buyer collected.
Now here is the intresting part that no one mention, buyer can press collected and don't have to show that QR code.
On this occasion buyer was very good and transaction completed without issues but would be more fail safe if the item didn't get marked collected until seller scans that code. That way seller must be given that collection QR or nr code. By the way I do have it as the buyer has sent it to me per my request.

Mentor7 months agoIf the buyer does not present the collection code, the seller is within their rights to refuse to give up the item, and they can cancel and refund the purchase.
No code means no proof of collection, therefore the seller does not have to part with the item.

Mentor7 months agoBuyers are now encouraged to mark as collected. In fact it has become very difficult to find the code as it is not in the order details under purchases, you have to go to the email from ebay confirming payment.
I know this from personal experience.

Mentor7 months agoIs that written down somewhere @papso22 ?
Or , from personal experience you were perhaps just lucky that the buyer marked as received, to be honest, I didn't even know buyers have this facility to mark as received, is that new too.
Doubt a buyer can be forced to mark as received, so i would still be open for a case of item not received, and no proof from the seller, if there's no collection code.
Think I would not let an item go 100% proof of collection, i.e. scanning that code, and will still advise peeps not to part with items without that collection code.

Mentor7 months agoIt's always been in the guidance as one way of confirming collection, but now it seems to be the default.
I was the buyer in my example.

Mentor7 months agoBuyer has to pay via ebay checkout, no cash on collection.
Only after they paid via ebay can you exchange contact info.
Buyer gives you ebay collection code after inspection.
Buyer can still open item not as described case.
