Postage Rates for low value small items
I am about to list some postcards that are worth between £1 and maybe £10 and I have been experimenting this evening with a card starting a Buy it Now £2.00. The postage keeps putting a large letter at £2.70 postage, but I can send for as little as 85p. How do I change the postage to reflect 1st or second class letter post rather than the one Ebay keeps auto populating?

·11 months agoYou may have to experiement with the category you are listing in.
Many items under £20, under 100g and letter or LL size can now be sent without using Simple Delivery but you may have to select particular categories.

OP11 months agoI have spent time this evening and have worked out how to list with custom postage rather than Simple Delivery - however, I also have a few football programmes to sell and that category has no custom postage, so I'm going to have to list on a collectable category that has no resemblance to a sporting item! - what a ludicrous set up Ebay has created, anyway, thank you for the advice, not sure I would have figured that out without mention of the category differences!

Mentor11 months agoYou could try putting the footy programmes in to slightly larger lots or groups if the same team for example, then it would make the postage a bit more attractive as it wouldn't change as long as under large letter size. Just a thought.

Mentor11 months agoEbay seems to have deliberately made it difficult. Before increasing to £20, there was some very poor guidance on categories, but now it just says you will find it when listing if you can use your own postage.
I would have thought that football programmes would be allowed, but may need to play with the system.
Again once listings showed category so you could see what categiry other sellers were using.
However try this, look at other sellers items, and if it is obvious that postage is 87p (it went up from 85p), click on list similar, you will then find out what category is being used, and do the same.
I think every time ebay appears to make a concession, they also make it harder to work out.
For example the reduction of the fixed fee of 75p plus 4% for buyer protection, to 10p plus 7% on first £20 and 4% thereafter, only makes a difference of 5p from about £10 upwards.Some concession.
