Postage Options For Buyers
Can someone clarify whether or not sellers are aware that buyers now have no control over choice of courier when purchasing an item?
I am told sellers get the option to exclude a courier when making the listing but if they don't make any exclusions, it seems sellers are being told by eBay that the buyer then has a choice over whether they choose EVRi or Royal Mail?
Is there a way that a buyer can actively choose which courier the item is delivered by (obviously you can if the seller has chosen a single courier when making the listing) as seems to be the assumption by many sellers?

Mentor8 months agoEbay say they will select the most appropriate courier.
This will often depend on which service buyer opts for.
E.g. standard or express delivery.
Buyer pays postage and ebay provide link for seller to print label.

OP8 months agoThanks tobiasd4, this is very helpful and more illuminating than trying to get a straight answer out of eBay managers on Live Chat!
So, is it such that paying for standard delivery attracts one courier whilst paying for express delivery attracts the other courier?
If that is the case, is it unreasonable to assume that paying for standard delivery would get you EVRi while paying for express delivery might get you Royal Mail?
I am trying to find a robust method which would most likely help me avoid EVRi altogether!
It is also very frustrating to repeatedly be told by sellers that I have paid for EVRi when I have done no such thing (and never would if I had a choice) - does eBay tell sellers at any point that eBay selects the most appropriate courier rather than the buyer?

Mentor8 months agoUnless seller has opted out of Evri, I don't think there is any way of knowing how item is sent.

OP8 months agoIt sounds like the buyer has absolutely zero control over which courier is chosen to send a bought item regardless of which service (e.g. standard or express delivery) the buyer opts for?

If you want to avoid Evri, all you can do is ask the seller if they have opted to use Royal Mail only.
If you buy from business sellers, they do not have to use Simple Delivery, choose their own postage options and should be able to tell you who your purchase will be sent with.

OP8 months agoThanks for replying, it is reassuring to learn that I am not going mad, that this is indeed how it is.
Sellers tell me at least once a week that I have selected and paid for EVRi (I have never done either) and when I try to tell them that the buyer has absolutely no control over the chosen courier, I am told I am wrong and sometimes they are cancelling sales off the back of it.
Furthermore, eBay does not seem to have been clear or explicit about this and appears to have no interest in stating it unambiguously on their help pages.
I guess the choice is accept the postage lottery or shop on a non-eBay website.
