Postage
As a private seller an eBay shop bought 3 of my bags; they chose Royal Mail to deliver them. When I went to the post office to get the labels the post mistress scanned each QR code for each bag, but all the bags had the same QR code, the buyer had only paid for one delivery. I was on the understanding that with private sellers each item has a unique code so it can be tracked. The post mistress said she didn’t think Royal Mail would be very happy about this, but she said your return address is on each parcel, so they might be coming back to you. The buyer didn’t pay enough postage for them to be placed in a box either. I contacted them to let them know what had happened and that they hadn’t paid enough postage, but we will see how this goes. I told them that should not be possible for a private seller to have the same codes for all items as eBay track delivery, if they are not delivered you don’t get the auction money. The buyer said that eBay let them do this, they were expecting if the items were returned to me that I would pay for postage to send them to the buyer. What rights do I have, I stand to loose the £100 plus for the bags and the bags themselves, just because a shop is too tight to pay for the right postage unless this was their ploy all along to get the bags and a refund from eBay.

Mentor5 months agoI thought that once a QR code was used to generate the package label that was it, it can't then be duplicated for two more separate packages. I'm surprised that the Post Office accepted the 3 separate packages, it seems that it's all in the lap of the gods a bit now that they've been sent.

OP5 months agoThe 3 packages were delivered within 2 days, faster than Evri, I was astonished, in fact the shop was pestering me for more stock, so they thought I was a good bet as a private seller.

Mentor6 months agoIf the buyer put the bags into their ebay basket then ebay probably combined the postage and just charged one lot, producing just one label. It was not something the buyer did, or can sort out, and they would not expect to pay more than ebay charged them when they followed Ebay's process.
The problem is that the three items can't be posted for that one price, but ebay and RM are meant to have an agreement that where it's an ebay driven 'error' in simple delivery RM will cover it.
As ebay has effectively created one order of three bags, the tracking should cover all three as far as release of payment goes.

OP5 months agoHi, since the bar codes on all 3 bags were the same code, will Royal Mail still deliver them, or am I likely as the post mistress said have them returned to me. I don’t want a negative at this time, as I have only been selling again for 3 weeks. However, I am finding it very stressful, so will make this last set of items my last. Thank you for your help

Mentor5 months agoIf you sent three separate parcels with one QR code I have no idea what RM will do.
I thought you had sent all the bags in the same parcel, sorry for the misunderstanding.
