Overseas buyer messaged me to say item not arrived 5 months later!
Summary: In a discussion initiated by harwich, they expressed concern about an overseas buyer who contacted them to report that an item had not yet arrived five months after purchase. jckl1957 and red_magpie responded, but it seems the replies did not address resolutions or next steps explicitly as the conversation did not provide content details. harwich also replied but did not record specific follow-up actions or information on the situation's development.
I had a buyer message me yesterday to ask if the photo's he bought from me have arrived back with me!!! He bought these on November 8th and it says they were delivered on Dec 9th so not sure what to do. He says the tracking says they are being returned to me!!! He is not being rude or nasty and is very polite but I am at a loss as to what I do. I thought i read somewhere that once the E Bay hub received an item they were responsible for it arriving overseas, is this correct? Thank you for any advice.

Mentor4 months agoIt's complicated and hard to advise with the information available.
If the items were delivered on Dec 9th, why are they supposedly on their way back to you?
The position may be different depending upon whether delivery was attempted, but unsuccessful, or the buyer refused to accept it.
If it was sent using eBay's global shipping then yes, eBay should be liable for a failed delivery. But if delivery was refused by the buyer this would void all eBay protection. In any case, it's probably too late for anything to be done through eBay now.
It may however be on the bordeline of the time limit for the buyer to issue a credit or debit card chargeback, and is definitely within the 180 day time limit for an "item not received" dispute through PayPal, if that's how they paid.
This could be even more complicated as the buyer paid eBay, not you, so PayPal or the credit card company would have to open a case againt eBay to claim the buyer's payment back. I don't know where you would stand if the item was shipped using the GSP, hopefully eBay would take responsibility.
I suggest you ask here again if this actually happens. You can also read about the crcumstances under which eBay will indemnify the seller agains third party chargebacks. I imagine that this is still somewhere near the end of eBay's full money back guarantee policy, but things can change. I haven't looked it up for some time, and don't have time now. Good luck!

OP4 months agoThanks for advice. The pictures didnt make it to buyer at all. and yesterday was first I heard about it. They were five postcard sized photos so would have gone through letter box easily. I will do what i can for him, I just cannot understand why he waited all this time to ask lol. Thanks for your help

·4 months agoThere is nothing you can do after all this time.
Just reply politely stating that the items never arrived back with you and you are sorry for the buyer's disappointment.
They are well out of time to open a case through Ebay.
