Outlandish bid received, request to cancel received
I listed an item for sale by auction. The auction was approaching its end and the item, worth approx £150 new, sold for over £1,300! The buyer swiftly posted a request to cancel the order. As I understand it, bids increase incrementally up to the top bidders maximum price willing to pay? So if this buyer made a mistake, it must mean that another buyer placed a top bid incrementally lower than the buyer? Has this buyer paid the price for a dodgy tactic or may it be a genuine mistake?

Mentor1 week agoIf you look at the bid history you'll see that you had two bidders bidding against each other there.

Mentor1 week agoIt isn't clear what these two bidders (or one bidder using two accounts) hoped to achieve by this absurd overbidding. This doesn't even seem to be a "must have" item that would attract bid manipulation.
It's not uncommon for a bidder to accidentally increase their bid tenfold by putting the decimal point in the wrong place. But not two!
I doubt you will ever know what happened - or get paid for the sale. If you don't get paid within four days you can cancel the sale and relist. In your position I would place both bidders on your blocked bidders list.
