Order misdirected by eBay's authenticator.. help!
I purchased and paid for a piece of vintage jewellery on 28th November. It was sent to the authenticator who appears to have misdirected it.
An email from Parcel Force today informed me that it had been delivered (it hadn't). When I tried to track and validate myself with my postcode, it didn't recognise me (alarm bells then). Eventually spoke with a person at Parcel Force who said my name was correct but my postcode didn't relate to the address to which they delivered my purchase, which was somewhere else entirely (they wouldn't say where).
I have all the info I need to share with eBay customer service (confirmation of purchase, authenticator updates, etc.) as and when required, but their website section doesn't have anything that relates specifically to this issue.
How can I pursue this matter, which is clearly the result of the authenticator's error?

·8 months agoYou need to open a case for 'item not received'.
If Ebay close the case because the item shows as delivered, you should appeal making sure you add the tracking information from parcelforce website.
Have you checked your emails from Ebay and/or contacted the seller?
Looking at the item (if it was the cat pendant?) I don't think it would have passed authentication.
If it didn't, it will have been returned to the seller and you will be refunded.

OP8 months agoThank you for your prompt reply to my query.
I'd be interested to know why you think it would have failed authentication. What is it they're wishing to authenticate anyway?
I have every scrap of information that eBay could possibly need to see. This includes original sale info, purchase, item sent to authenticator, Parcel Force tracking update emails, etc. I've been in contact with the seller, who I guess is really the person who should be pursuing this, but it was intended as a present for my wife's 80th birthday last Friday, so you can imagine how upset (and angry) I am.
I really want the item, rather than a refund. If it's gone to the wrong address, albeit with my name on it, what chance that recipient will be honest enough to either return it to the seller, or maybe (here's a vain hope) forward it on to me?

·8 months agoI am very concerned that you have a Parcelforce Tracking number. They typically carry large, heavy items, not pieces of jewellery. I can't imagine that Parcelforce would be involved in the delivery of a piece of jewellery.
Are you certain that the message you received stating a Parcelforce item has been delivered is connected to the piece of jewellery you bought. What has the seller said?
Have you opened a case stating the item has not been delivered?
You must do that to alert Ebay to the fact that the item is missing.
You can report an item not received using the button below:

To answer your questions -
If it has been delivered elsewhere, the recipient will not know who the seller is as the package will have come from the authentication centre. If they are expecting something from an Ebay seller, they should open a return - but their seller would be aware of this and it would probably not be connected to your purchase.
I don't believe the piece you bought would pass authentication anyway. The pendant part of the piece looks to be marked 14K and does not have a hallmark. To pass authentication, gold jewellery has to comply with Ebay's jewellery policy - see link below - and needs a full UK hallmark.
