Odd Bidding
Summary: kevjblue shared a situation where they sold a guitar via eBay auction, but encountered issues with bidders being unable to place bids due to technical errors. One bidder claimed their bid of £650 was confirmed but not applied, while another experienced an error code 5001 and was unable to bid. kevjblue is seeking advice on how to address this issue.
Hi All
Had a guitar for sale on auction with eBay today. About an hour before it finished I had an urgent message from a bidder saying he was locked out with an error code 5001 and couldn’t bid. I didn’t think much of at the time but told them to reset their device to clear error.
The guitar sold for £130 which I did think was very low but hey ho that’s the way it goes sometimes.
This evening I have received a message from an angry bidder who has told me that he tried to put a bid on upto £650 on my item and although eBay confirmed his bid it didn’t apply it.
My question is what can I do ??
Any help much appreciated.

Mentor2 weeks agoNo one can force you to proceed with a transaction if you decide not to sell at the lower price. If the first buyer has paid you can still cancel/refund. Brace yourself for neg feedback though. It's possible they may also report you as a non-performing seller but as long as you refund any payment ebay won't act on a single problem.
