No refund
Summary: dancr-2256 purchased a car part that did not fit and attempted to return it to the seller via the seller's provided method. The seller claimed they received a different item and closed the case after alleging no response from dancr-2256. Community members advised on eBay's return policies and potential chargeback options. dancr-2256 later managed to speak with an eBay agent and was advised to try getting a refund through PayPal. They expressed frustration over eBay's chatbot support and compared it to a positive support experience with Amazon during a friend's account compromise.
Ok. Bought a new car part for £17. Made sure it was correct item as two variants, air con non air con. Correct car registration entered.
Aux belt didn’t fit. Returned item to seller.
Seller took weeks to respond.
Msg finally came from seller that the belt I returned wasn’t the belt they sent??
Third working day after this msg the said due to my no response the belt I returned has been destroyed and the case closed.

OP3 weeks agoOk thanks guys for the responses. Managed to talk to an agent from EBay after a very long time searching for a way to get past chat bot to a point where I found a phone number.
The sellers rtgroup11 originally msged me through eBay when I informed them it was the wrong part encouraging me to use their returns method not eBay’s as returns claiming refunds are delt with faster. So I did. The eBay returns window wasn’t opened. eBay have opened the return window now but it’s all too late as seller has no obligation to refund.
Dispite having the receipt from post office proving the recorded return delivery still no joy.
They insist the part wasn’t what they sent. No refund.
Guess it’s a way that companies can blag a way around refunds by bypassing eBay’s return system.
eBay suggested I try PayPal to see if I can get money back as they are backed by financial institutions or something. Will try that avenue today.
I know it’s only £17 but I’ve spent a boat load larger on some items and if I had this hassle with more at stake, I would be fuming. It’s the principle of the matter is why I’m acting like a dog with a bone!!
I did inform eBay that the chat bot answering system can only answer simple questions, I just needed an agent to chat to which proved very hard to do.
Ironically the same morning I tried to speak to someone from eBay my friends Amazon account was compromised ( he had 9k of high end kit placed on his basket and they were trying to get him to upload software through links to gain further access). I was able to get a direct call back from Amazon in under 5 minutes via my account and together we upped his level of security instantly and all is good.
I would had been in a state of panic had my eBay account been compromised and I needed to speak to an agent!
Thanks all for your replies.

Mentor3 weeks agoWhat sort of case did you open as if the correct case, not as described then seller provides return label.
if “does not fit” that is classed as a change of mind return, which a private seller does not have to accept.

Mentor3 weeks agoSounds like you've closed that door with eBay, if you paid with a debit/credit card or ApplePay you have 120 days to issue a not as described chargeback.

Mentor3 weeks agoDid you open a formal eBay return request and escalate on day 4 if the seller didn't reply ? ---
