New User - Two Suspicous Offers Within Minutes!
Hi
I am a new user and have listed a laptop for 'Buy Now'.
Within minutes I recieved two suspcious offers which I declined. Neither had feedback to I declined both.
Is this common?
Any suggestions to keep myself safe?
Thanks
Dave

OP6 months agoThe first email contained a link in the buyers offer sugesting that I copy the link into my browser to check supposed fraudulent activity.
The other came minutes later with profile of someone in Australia and wanting the latptop send to Aberdeen.

Mentor6 months agoBlock both of those buyers from returning!
Add their ID's here:

Anything asking to click on a link especially when just trying to buy your item should be treated with suspicion.
The Australian buyer may be using a forwarding company address, but again they'd be enough laptops listed in their own country for them to buy without this around the world hassle of buying what is not a rare, one off item ! 🤔
Right to be wary of both, block 'em !

·6 months agoTo avoid getting offers that you are not prepared to consider, you could sell the laptop for a set price and no offers.
Just change your settings to no offers and maybe drop the price slightly if you are prepared to take a little less.
You can also require immediate payment so buyers have to register a payment method before they buy the item and you are guaranteed payment.
Otherwise, there is little in the way of seller protection and it is easy enough for a buyer to start a 'not as described' case for the smallest thing or to claim you sent them a different item.
Such buyers are thankfully a minority, but Ebay tend to support the buyer rather than the seller if such a claim is made.

OP6 months agoI have followed your advice, set to 'no offers' and reduced the price to what my minimum acceptable was. The only thing I could not see how to do was how to 'require immediate payment'.
Thank you!

Mentor6 months agoOn the edit listing, immediately above accept offers, is the box for “immediate payment required.”
