New seller, have been asked for bank card details
Hi
I have just started out selling on ebay.
I received a message from notify_3483 asking me to open a link & verify my bank card details otherwise my account wouldn't be active.
The link opened & I entered my card details. It also asked for how much my balance was [which is not a lot].
It then said I needed £300 in the account to verify my Ebay account.
At that point alarm bells rang and I closed the window.
Is this a hack? If it is I am very nervous about selling on here now as I have only just joined.
Can anyone help please.
thank you

OP6 months agoHi. Since posting this article I have a further 3 emails. This really needs to be addressed by Ebay as likely lots are getting caught out.

For information, any messages from ebay will always address you by name, not for example “Dear Member”

Mentor6 months agoThat's at least three posts I have seen recently where an ebay member account messages a seller and pretends to be ebay verification.
At least one even used the ebay logo as their avatar.
Worrying trend.

As Papso says a worrying trend.

OP6 months agoI’m so annoyed with myself for even thinking this was what I should do, lesson learned.
They are probably targeting new sellers who are not 100% sure of the process.
Doesn’t fill me with confidence selling on here now, being hacked within the first hour.
Thankfully no damage done to me, dread to think how much they’ve from other people.
so glad I found this community!

It's a scam message.
If you've entered your card details, including the 3 digit security number from the back, report it as stolen.
Edit to add: Run scans on your device as well if you clicked on a link to get to that screen.

Mentor6 months agoGood move, but check all accounts for the next few weeks, for anything that should not be there!
