Need some advice on handling a return
Hi, I've been selling privately for a few years and I've only dealt with one return in the past (nice easy one) so I'm unsure how to handle this.
I sold a 4 year old gaming laptop, the buyer said the graphics card was underperforming and requested a return saying it was faulty. I accepted the return but it's been sent back with the wrong power plug. The power cable is in 2 parts, the plug that goes into the laptop connected to the power brick (this part came back) but the other part that plugs into the brick then into the wall is missing and instead has been sent with a different (old and dirty) plug.
It's a genuine mistake, I get that but the buyer can't find my original and has offered to replace with a £2.99 replacement from eBay and has also suggested that I'm using this to try to get out of refunding him. I fully intend to refund him but just need to know where I stand. Should I accept the cheap replacement, demand he find and return the original (he had it in his possession for less than 48 hours) or deduct a small amount from the refund and replace it myself?
Many thanks in advance
