Navigating Online Selling for Minors: Challenges and Solutions
Summary: smasher.7950 is seeking advice on resolving a problem with their underage son's eBay account, which has funds that are currently inaccessible due to his age. They have encountered automated responses without resolution and ask for advice on managing or preventing such issues on platforms like eBay. tobiasd4 responded, suggesting that the funds may only be accessible once the son turns 18.
Hi everyone,
I'm reaching out to discuss a hiccup we encountered with my son's eBay selling activities. He's 15 and has been proactive about engaging in online selling. However, we faced an issue with his account because he's underage, and now there are funds stuck that we can't access. We've tried the typical channels to resolve this, but we're stuck in a loop with automated responses.
Have any of you dealt with similar situations where your child has taken an entrepreneurial step online and hit age-related limits? How did you navigate the systems of major platforms like eBay to resolve account or fund-related issues? Any specific contacts or strategies that proved helpful, and what would you advise to prevent or manage such issues better?
I’m hoping we can share some practical solutions and insights based on personal experiences. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and advice!

The reason there is an 18 year old rule is that under that age you can't enter into legal contracts and so nothing in the user agreement, or between buyer and seller, is legally enforceable.
As said, your son may have to wait a number of years for payment.

Funds are only released when your son is 18.
