Logging a sale as completed when using either delivered or collected
Why is it that Ebay sale processes do not take into account that the sale of an item with either delivery or collection, cannot be fully confirmed as completed when the item is collected by choice of the buyer? A recent sale for me was so complicated due to the lack of procedures to cover this, I had to ask the buyer to message me to say he has the item and then twice had to coerce Ebay help desk to read this and finally get them to log it as a completed sale. This was annoying as the buyer paid instantly and the payment was with Ebay but I could not access this without sale completion.

OP6 months agoWaiting for 14 days is unfair as this payment is now with Ebay so if you multiply this by 1000's of transactions, there is a vast amount of funds held by Ebay for their own use!

Mentor6 months agoIf you use the collection code for buyer collections or personal deliveries that would complete the transaction. See "Proof of collection" on here:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/selling/posting-items/setting-postage-options/local-collection?id=4181
If it wasn't listed as collection you can cancel with buyer's agreement and relist for collection. Then the buyer will receive the code when they pay online.

OP6 months agoThis is awful, I dont want to have to go through a cancellation and relisting just to obtain my funds. The buyer has already paid so the funds are now in the Ebay system, so what happens to this payment if I cancel. This is simply an omission on Ebays part to not have a way of confirming collection and acceptance of the item.

Mentor6 months agoYou will get the money but it will held for 14 days. If you cancel that issues a refund and buyer would then buy and pay again. So it is a palaver.

OP6 months agoExactly, I have been through all of this with Ebay help desk who at 8am confirmed the transaction was upgraded to 'delivered'. When I checked at 6pm it was still 'waiting for delivery'. I then had to contact Ebay help desk again and finally got them to update to 'delivered' and finally saw that my funds were released. My complaint was stated as resolved, it was only resolved for this transaction and not the Ebay procedures which are sadly lacking for a sale of either or collection/delivery.

Mentor6 months agoBut there is a proper procedure for collections, it is not ebay at fault if you and buyer do not use it. The code provided to buyer when entered by you shows as delivered.
If it was not sold as a collection then as already said, there is no system to change, but that is down to ebay’s not very Simple, Simple Delivery.
As far as release of money goes, once you reach the ebay requirements, which are not difficult, money is released within 24 hours.

OP6 months agoYou are completely missing the point. The collections procedure works fine as long as you list this as 'collection only'. The moment you opt for delivery or collection, this procedure no longer exists and there is no way of confirming a collection when this is decided by the buyer based on location relative to the seller.
