Late delivery removal denied as item posted 01 Jan 0001 - Check your reports!
Summary: A participant initiated a discussion about a denial of a late delivery removal request, where the reason given was that the item was supposedly posted on "01 Jan 0001," prompting a need to check reports. tone-deaf-music and tommystrezures actively engaged in examining the issue, with tone-deaf-music seeking additional inputs and responses from others, including papso22 and marco@ebay. The confusion over the date and its implications on delivery timelines seemed to be a central issue, with participants collaborating to verify facts and correct any discrepancies in the reporting system.
I post mainly by Royal mail 48, which doesn't usually get a scan until it's delivered.
eBay usually automatically remove any late deliveries after a few days, provided the item was posted on time.
I noticed I batch which weren't removed from around the end of feb.
After manually requesting removal it was denied. The reason they gave was that it was posted on 01 Jan 0001
Has anyone experienced this and managed to fix it?

Hi , thanks for your post.
I was checking for you there, and I can see the defects you might be referring to were removed eventually, so all good there.
@papso22 This doesn't look like an issue affecting multiple accounts, otherwise we would've seen internal reports, and we would've seen certain volume on this, so I reckon it is only a typo/glitch on the automated emails, so I've just reported it, so it can be sorted.
Thank you,
Marco

OP6 months agoHi @marco@ebay
Thanks for the reply, much appreciated. The ones on this account were removed (after speaking with customer service), which was great. But I have another account and customer service refused to remove them. Would it be possible to look at it if I give you order numbers or the account name?
I think the date on the emails might be a red herring, but maybe not. But something definitely went wrong around the end of Feb, as i say if affected all 3 of my accounts and also a family members.
I'm convinced that it wouldn't have just impacted my accounts and my family members, without anyone elses.
The automatic removal seemed to resume itself after the end of Feb. It's as if the auto removeal stopped for a couple of weeks and then carried on.

Thanks for your reply, @tone-deaf-music.
Were those defects appealed? If so, we can't really do much about it, since you cannot appeal twice. If you haven't appealed them, you can post from the account in question, and then we could send it for manual review, as we cannot action other accounts unless you post from them.
Thank you,
Marco

OP6 months agoThanks again for your replies @marco@ebay
Yes, they were appealed and removal was refused sadly.
Hopefully, other people will start noticing this and it'll be recognised as a glitch that ebay will consider when claculating TRS status each month. It seems so unlikely that it's just something which has happened on all my accounts and nobody elses, that it almost certainly must have hit other sellers

OP6 months agoThey removed them from 3 of my accounts. The 4th they absolutely refused. Got passed to a manager who also refused. Now hovering around 2.6%
Can't believe nobody else has spotted this issue (although to be fair someone else pointed it out to me). I expect a fair few people will get stung in the next month or two when the seller level evaluations get done.
Must be a widespread issue as it affected all 4 of my accounts in different categories

Hi Marco, is this another technical glitch and will it affect other accounts?
tone-deaf-music
OP6 months agoThanks for tagging someone at ebay.
I'm almost sure it is widespread and a tachnical glitch as it affected all 4 of mine. When I say 4 of mine, it's actually 3 of mine and one of a family members which I help out with (so different name, address, banking and stuff)
If you're selling a few items a day and post by either Royal Mail 24/48 (untracked), or first class/ second class then it's worth checking.
Easy way to tell is go to seller dashboard, click to expand Late Delivery Rate then click "get full report"
In here you will see all your late items (there will be a fair few if you sell several items a day)
Under the Reason column most will have "Removed on <<date of removal>>"
This is where ebay have automartically removed them as you marked it as dispatched on time.
You might notice some order from the last week or two which don't have the removed tag. These are OK too and will be auto removed shortly.
If you have any that aren't removed from the last couple of weeks in feb then there's a good chance you have been hit with this glitch and will have an inflated numver of late deliveries. This could mean you lose your TRS privileges for a period until the late feb ones roll off.
Can't see any way that this has affected my 3 accounts (selling in different categories) and a family members (posting in a different part of the country) but not anyone elses.

Mentor6 months agoWe have noticed a spike in supposed late deliveries too on our account. However good luck with CS, as I see it its their error so they should strike the lot off if they can't get the dates right!

Mentor6 months agoNot sure I was alive in 0001 to fix this, and considering stamps only came in to action in 1840 that is an odd one to use. HAve you tried to appeal it or talk to an operative?
tone-deaf-music
OP6 months agoI did have to cast my mind back and try to work out when I first started selling on ebay. It certainly feels like over 2000 years ago.
I spoke to an operative about one of them and they removed it as a "one-off goodwill gesture", after recommending we use full tracked services. Not sure if they will remove the others. I'm about to find out.
It's pretty time consuming though, especially if we have to do each one individually. We have 4 accounts and it's affected all of them so I wouldn't be surprised if it's a widespread issue.
My late deliveries are all around 2% now - way more than usual
