I've been refunded for a TV but the seller never sent me a return label
Hi,
To keep a long story short:
I was sold a TV described as "perfect", but after some time using it, I realised the screen had degradation issues and I decided to request a return. I was apologetic to the seller, and offered to pay for return shipping and also made an offer to be partially refunded to keep the TV (apparently that is frowned upon). I made it clear I wanted to be reasonable so we could come to some agreement.
Ebay made a decision in my favour and approved a refund, but the seller did not issue a returns label. In fact, I did not receive any correspondence from him at all after my return request.
I am concerned as to why he never produced a label, as I don't understand what he would not want it back. It was sold for £180, but even with the screen issues, it still has value of £100, I would say.
Ebay said on the day of refund, that "the item had been sent back", which was not the case.
Is there any way I can double-check that the seller was able to message me? It seems like he blocked me or just ignored me straight after the return request, but that makes no sense. He could have kept £120, or had the TV back to re-sell it, but now he's lost out on the TV.
I feel bad, as I really don't like keeping items after being refunded, and I just want to make sure the seller did not have issues with his messaging account and genuinely didn't want the TV back.
Thank you

Mentor6 months agoWhat happens when you try to send an eBay message?
The ball is firmly in your sellers court now, if they do want their TV back they need to pay and arrange for collection/shipping. You don't have to pay for this.

OP6 months agoI can still send messages to them, but they haven't replied since my return request. Their items are no longer showing, but that's apparently because ebay freezes accounts until refund has gone through.
I don't like the bad feeling, as I would want the TV back if it were me.

Mentor6 months agoeBay do not freeze accounts they freeze any payouts due to the item, but messages can still be sent , received and replied to, if the member so wishes !
There is nothing more you can do as the case has closed successfully . The television is obviously faulty, the seller may have known about this fault, and doesn't wish to pay a return label cost which would be substantial for a useless item.
Please don't feel bad, no fault or blame lies with you !

OP6 months agoThank you for that. After my return request, their other items no longer showed, even after signing out. Did ebay hide their items, or did the seller?

Mentor6 months agoIn theory when a return case is opened for Not As Described, seller has to send a return label and only refund on return.
You as buyer are not expected to pay return cost for this sort of case. Seller could offer a partial refund, best not to ask for one though.
As you have received a refund, the case closes and ebay would assume seller does not want return.
Even if blocked as you are in a transaction, messages should still be possible. You could ask if he wants it returned, but if he does he would have to pay you to post, as he can no longer provide a label.
