Item was sent by Simple Delivery and damaged in transit and I have to refund the Buyer | Member To Member Support

I sent an item by Simple Delivery and when it arrived with the Buyer the item had become damaged. This is evidenced by a photo showing that the postal box had literally looked like it had been stamped on. Ebay have now said that the Seller has to return the item and I have to issue a full refund. I'm now out of pocket with a damaged item that is going to be hard to resell due to the damage. What can I do?
