Item was at cheaper price with voucher code days after being given offer price by seller
Hello All
Is it allowed for sellers to post vouchers with cheaper prices after earlier sending you an offer price? This happened to me just recently and seems like a deliberate tactic by the seller.
Thank you in advance for any insight.

Mentor3 weeks agoJust so you understand, offers sent out by sellers, are not decided by seller.
Ebay just tells seller when an offer on an item can be sent, the seller has no idea who the offer is sent to, so even if you thought there was something improper happening then you are wrong.

OP3 weeks agoI wasn't thinking that it was a tactic directed at me in particular. It just seems odd that an offer should be sent by the seller and then just a few days later, the item is available for purchase with a voucher code, making the item cheaper with the voucher code than with the seller offer price. Many thanks

OP3 weeks agoSo actually, it's Ebay at fault for bad timing of telling seller they could send me an offer, then promoting a voucher code and making the item cheaper if I'd been able to use the voucher code.

Mentor3 weeks agoIf Buy it now item has watchers, seller can send an offer at any time.
Ebay also offer discounts at random,
The 2 aren't connected.

OP3 weeks agoOkay, thanks. Seller must have known a voucher code was about to go out on Ebay just a few days after seller made offer price to me.

Mentor3 weeks agoDid the voucher come from seller or ebay?
Ebay do add voucher codes to listings, seller would get full amount, ebay fund the discount.

OP3 weeks agoMany thanks for responding to my question. The voucher code was from Ebay, but I would have thought that the seller would have known in advance, especially as it was just a matter of a few days inbetween the sellers offer price to me and the Ebay voucher promotion. Thanks again.

OP3 weeks ago · EditedI see that Ebay charge the seller a fee for taking part in a discount code promotion.

Mentor3 weeks ago · EditedThere are lots of different promotions. If it's a seller initiated voucher then the seller would meet the cost. The one you're describing in your opening post sounds like an eBay promotion.
If it's an eBay promotion then eBay meet the cost. The seller isn't told about this promotion and has no way of opting in/out, its a site promotion.

OP3 weeks agoThank you. It was a seller offer, and then a few days later, the Ebay promotion (voucher code) made the item cheaper than the seller offer. It would seem to be unlucky timing. Thanks again

Mentor3 weeks agoHappens to me all the time, I buy something from a retail or online store for a small discount, then it goes on sale for half price!

OP3 weeks agoI know - very frustrating. I hadn't had the experience I had just recently on Ebay before. I just felt that the seller would have known that the Ebay promotion was forthcoming, and so sending me an offer made no sense. Thank you.
