Item title and description is different to when placed into basket.

This item's title clearly states that it is 4x the item
"4 X good2heat Plus Microwaveable 2 Compartment Divided Container Plastic - Red"
4 X good2heat Plus Microwaveable 2 Compartment Divided Container Plastic - Red for sale online | eBay UK
However, once added to your basket, the title completely changes to:
"Good 2 Heat Plus 2-Compartment Microwave Container 1.3L Red Dishwasher Safe"
So it's now just a single item.. not 4.
Good 2 Heat Plus 2-Compartment Microwave Container 1.3L Red Dishwasher Safe | eBay UK
They are completely different item numbers.
At first I thought maybe it was a different website trying to look like eBay, but it's not. How the hell can this happen?
The issue is that I clicked 'buy now' and now paying 4 times the price it says. What's going on?
I've included screenshots of the two descriptions.

·5 months ago@ziplock9000 It's all down to ebay's terrible product catalogue - as issues like this always are. The first link is for an item in ebay's product catalogue - ebay decide the product title and item specifics - they are almost always full of errors and misleading info.
Any seller who then lists an item for sale with an EAN that matches an item in ebay's product catalogue then has the ebay created data attached to their listing by default - containing all of ebay's errors. In this case, ebay have taken the EAN of a single item (8850980028219) and created a totally misleading entry in their product catalogue with a title claiming that the product is four items instead of one.
Any buyer searching via google etc will then get served up a link to ebay's product catalogue title and picture but linked to ebay's current chosen seller of that item. The seller's actual listing with their correct title and info are at the second link - but a buyer accessing it via the stupid product catalogue link doesn't see the real listing until it's too late.
The seller's listing was always for a single item but ebay's catalogue leach was always wrongly stating four. If you look at the url of the first link, that's not an item number, it's not itm/number but p/number. That denotes an ebay product number, not an item number. It's subtle but the two urls are two different things
This is how ebay's product catalogue works and this is completely on ebay, not individual sellers. Sellers should check the catalogue data that ebay have forced onto their listing then remove it when they find it has errors (it almost always will have errors) but most sellers don't even realise that it's happened let alone know how to get rid of it or even that they can get rid of it.
This has been an issue for years, ever since ebay created their godawful catalogue. They've been made aware of this years ago but aren't interested in correcting anything. There were a few months, several years ago, where they introduced the facility to submit correction requests to their catalogue but none were ever acted on and, after a while, they quietly removed the link. Now they just leave buyers and sellers to sort out the problems that ebay create.
Ebay are not enabling scams - they're the ones doing the fooling with their misleading information.

Mentor5 months agoSo when I accessed the listing through the OP's link, then put the item in the listing in my basket, only to find it was a different item, that's an ebay catalogue issue?

·5 months ago@papso22 Yep, that's what it does and has done for several years. Usually, ebay manage to get the quantity right so buyers just notice slight changes to the title and probably don't notice much else - especially if they're buying quickly on the app. But in this case, the difference in quantity is a pretty major mistake on ebay's part.
I hate the catalogue with a passion. Anything I list that has a product in the catalogue (mostly audio books in my case), I always enter "Does not apply" in the EAN/ISBN field so that my listing doesn't get associated with ebay's junk. The catalogue details for most audio books are particularly bad. I spent several years trying to get them sorted before finally admitting defeat and detaching all my listings.

Mentor5 months ago@marco@ebay how can this happen?

OP5 months agoI'd like to know too as it very much feels like eBay is enabling scams or at best, extremely misleading practices that allow people to be fooled.

Mentor5 months agoContact seller and if unable to sort out, ask to cancel.
Business seller must accept a request to cancel.

OP5 months agoIt's ok, the price is still slightly good. It was just amazing at the time for 4x.
Thanks.
