Item Removed Under Counterfeit Policy - Others Selling Identical Item
Summary: tiptreegas expressed frustration about their Beach Boys box set being removed under a counterfeit policy, despite purchasing it from Amazon 15 years ago and seeing other identical listings. They wondered if their lower price prompted others to report the item without evidence. tressygirl explained potential reasons for such removals, including differences in listings, involvement of authorized retailers, or actions by the VeRO Program, and suggested reviewing related policies. tommystrezures mentioned that an AI bot might be overly sensitive and recommended contacting eBay for clarification. john1297576 noted that such removals often occur at the request of brand owners, with approved business sellers successfully listing similar items.
I listed a Beach Boys box set today and have since had the item removed under the counterfeit policy despite it having been bought from Amazon 15 years ago.
Other sellers are selling the exact same item with no obvious difference between what they are selling and my item.
The contact function merely repeats the policy to me.
Given the fact my initial auction price undercuts that of the other Buy It Now sellers substantially I wonder if other users can report an item and have it removed with no evidence of the item being fake?
Either way is there an alternative way to query a decision I believe to be unfounded?

Mentor3 weeks ago · EditedThis sort of removal is usually at the request of the Brand Owner, but un fortunately ebay advice to seller seems to be standard and refers to fake.
Other similar items listed may be for sale by approved Business Sellers. You are registered asi a private seller and would not be given permission by the Brand Owner to sell.

OP3 weeks agoI spoke with eBay and was asked to provide proof of the original purchase which I was able to do with a screenshot of the original order. Annoyingly it shows a slightly different product but hopefully eBay will get back to me with approval.

You could ask eBay to explain on the phone This link will get you a call back but it only works on your phone.

MentorJul 19, 2026 at 3:46 AMIf your listing is removed or hidden by eBay, you may see similar listings still active on the site. This could be for a few reasons:
There may be differences between the two listings that aren't obvious
The other seller may be a rights owner or authorised retailer of the item
A participant in the VeRO Program may have asked us to remove your listing but hasn't requested the other listing be taken down. These types of removals are only done at the request of the VeRO participant, and aren't eBay's decision. Read more about the VeRO Program
Your listing was reported to eBay, but the other listings haven't been spotted and reported. eBay rely on members to report too, there's a report button bottom right in the form of a ? mark, on every listing.
