Item removed following user report
Summary: fircroftstar expressed frustration over eBay removing a listing for a vintage RAF uniform due to a policy violation reported by a user, despite similar items being available. They appealed the decision but faced rejection and felt that the report was unjustified, questioning the user's intentions. fircroftstar is considering moving their sales to other platforms and sought recommendations. *vyolla* commented that there's likely no recourse after an appeal has been rejected and noted the decision was probably made by a human.
On 20th June 2026 I received an email from eBay stating:
'We had to remove one or more of your listings for not following our Government items policy...
This determination was made by a customer service agent. This came to our attention because of a user report.'
There was no indication of how the listing violated the policy and there are many current listings of similar items, some dated less than ten years ago. I posted an appeal, referencing the vintage format of the item labels, but the appeal was rejected.
The item concerned is a vintage RAF uniform (undated), but I have made some researches based on the contract details on the labels, which indicate that the uniform is Pattern 1968 and the manufacturer ceased trading in 1973, so the item is probably between 53 and 58 years old and complies with eBay's Government Items Policy.
I am dismayed that eBay have acted precipitately on the basis of an uncorroborated report. It would appear that the user concerned has acted in ignorance, irresponsibly and possibly out of malice towards me personally. I feel that the contents of that report should be disclosed to me as justification for the removal, even if the user's identity is withheld.
I have an extensive collection of vintage British Armed Forces uniforms that I am intending to sell over the next months. I am not now inclined to do so via eBay and will be investigating alternative platforms.
Has anyone else suffered a similar situation?
How can I get the listing reinstated?

Mentor3 months agoTo be honest with you there's nowhere you can go with this once an appeal has been rejected. It sounds like the initial decision was made by a human, not AI.
