Item not returned
Summary: davyarcher shared their experience of selling an OS explorer map on an online platform for £8, only for the buyer to claim it was not as expected and request a refund. Despite issuing a refund, the buyer did not return the map and no action was taken by the platform when the incident was reported. *vyolla* advised that the seller should not have issued a refund without receiving the item back first. davyarcher expressed disappointment that this policy was not clearly communicated by the platform.
I sold an OS explorer map on ebay for £ 8
Sent to buyer.
Buyer finds some excuse to claim it is not as he expected, and started a refund claim.
I sent buyer a refund.
Buyer never sent Map back.
Reported the failed return to ebay = no action happened.
So buyer gets free map, delivered, and I had to pay £ 2.20 postage to send his free Map.
Are buyers supposed to return the item when they claim a refund ?
I am so pleased that this was not an expensive item.

OP3 months agoThanks.
I wish that ebay could have mentioned that somewhere.

Mentor3 months agoeBay do mention it on their returns guidance page:
If you accept a return, the buyer must send the item back before you issue a refund.

All online selling platforms require buyers to return an item prior to receiving a refund, same as if you return an item to a bricks and mortar store. If you refund before getting your item back there's nothing in place to make a buyer return it.
