Item Delivered April 2026 Being Re-Delivered July 2026

I bought an umbrella in April 2026. It arrived safely a few days later. Fast forward to this week, late July 2026, and I am getting email messages from eBay saying (1) your order has been received - for the umbrella bought in April (2) your item has been despatched (3) here is your tracking info. I reported it as a software glitch but now Royal Mail has emailed me three times to say (4) we have your item, (5) we are sorting your item, (6) your item will be delivered today. I have tried to contact customer care to say I did not re-order the item, have not paid for it, do not want it, and to ask what is going on?!? I have not succeeded in getting any answers.
Has anyone else experienced unauthorised, unreal 'phantom shopping activity' on eBay? Is this some sort of 'hallucination' by A.I. agents?
If I get free goods, should I worry? Well, the fact is, I did not want, order or pay for this item and if the item really arrives then the seller is being cheated which is unjust. And if the glitch happens one way, what is to stop it happening another way e.g. eBay 'hallucinating' that I did not order items or did not pay for them or misusing my bank info to make random unauthorised purchases without my knowledge?
The software on eBay is full of bugs. Most were glitches on the website which were annoying but not dangerous. But if eBay is now generating bogus purchases and contacting Rotal Mail to deliver stuff the glitch is infecting a wider part of our economy. I am starting to feel very unsafe - I do not trust eBay with my personal details, with my bank information. What next? I wake up to find eBay has used my debit card to buy missiles, launched them, and started WW3!?! Seriously though, this is bizarre and concerning.
Has something like this affected anyone else? What did you do to stop it happening again? Many thanks for any help you choose to offer.

Mentor3 weeks agoTo be honest unless something gets delivered, just ignore it all.
It is most unlikely that any of it is real, if you have not paid a seller for this imaginary purchase, then nothing will happen. It just seems like Simple Delivery is not simple it is Crazy.

OP2 weeks agoI followed your advice and ignored it. Then eBay sent a second message saying a second umbrella was being sent to me with another tracking number. Unless this gets sorted, every time someone buys this item I will get messages from eBay and Royal Mail intended for the real buyer, including details about delivery times and if/where items have been left in 'safe spaces'. There is some glitch which apparently over-writes later buyer's data with my data so instead of their email, mine is used. I tried changing my own email but eBay refused any attempt to do this with an error message dismissing all new addresses as 'invalid'. I emailed eBay about this but have had no response of any kind. I will try to get a human customer care 'agent' to help sort this out. I leave this update just for the record.
