Could you explain the reason for the return, and whether it was arranged through any of eBay's returns procedures? Who paid for the return, and how? Or was it just a private return arranged with the seller?
We need some dates; when was the item delivered to you and how long after receipt did you return it?
As a generality, the person responsible is probably the one who paid for the delivery, but it may not be that simple. We don't even know whether eBay was involved or this was just between you and the seller.
