OP3 weeks agoHi Tressy, I had bid and won an auction, however the item failed to meet the reserve price. So, as the highest bidder I decided to message the seller to see if we could agree a price. The seller said he was willing to discuss but wanted me to give my whatsapp number so that they could send more photos and a video of the item, so I reluctantly agreed. We later agreed a price and he asked for a deposit (the item was a vehicle), he sent me his driving license and car documents and we spoke on a call, so I reluctantly agreed. Now he has turned off his number and whatsapp and I have no way to contact him.

OP3 weeks agoHi, thanks. Yes, I have been well and truly scammed and the seller's ebay account has since been 'suspended or terminated'. However, I have not yet had any reply from ebay.

Why would you expect any help from eBay? You broke their rules by making an off-eBay deal to enable this seller to evade payment of eBay's fees for the sale. Your account could be suspended for this.
eBay is a jungle. You would be wise to make yourself more familiar with their rules, and the conditions for eBay's money back guarantee.
Plus, as has been said, you would have had no help from eBay anyway as motor vehicles (and deposits) are excluded from their money back guarantee.

OP3 weeks agoYou should not jump to unjust conclusions. May I clarify, the seller had taken the vehicle off ebay before I even agreed a sale, never mind paying a deposit.

Mentor3 weeks agoClassic scam. You must never pay a deposit, it's like a free gift to scammer. Hopefully you haven't lost a large amount here.
