Is it usual for a seller to say FREE postage then I have to pay Royal Mail?
Summary: katwoolha-0 expressed concern about a potential scam after purchasing an item on eBay, where the seller disappeared, and the package was unexpectedly held at the sorting office due to unpaid postage. papso22 advised that the eBay money-back guarantee applies to guest purchases, suggesting claims for either non-receipt or 'item not as described.' fargvs provided a link to track guest purchases and explained how to pursue claims within 30 days. katwoolha-0 expressed frustration with their first eBay experience, noting the unhelpfulness of eBay support.
Hi, I think I may have been scammed by a seller that has disappeared from ebay (hallw_sal) This was my first time using ebay and I checked out as a guest using PayPal. The listing clearly said "postage FREE". I have eventually tracked down my item as being at the local Royal Mail sorting office. It is being held "as the seller didn't pay enough postage". I can't contact the seller as they have disappeared from ebay. I am concerned that I have been scammed - I will try to get the parcel tomorrow but have no idea what will be in it. It was (incorrectly) listed as Rowan Knitting Magazine no 1. I needed this one anyway - Knitting Magazine no 14 and was excited to see it available. Not sure I trust ebay. HAs anyone else had this experience?

OP3 weeks agoThank you, I have no idea what will be in my parcel when I go to get it: if it is what I purchased, that's good. I dread to think what the 48 hr tracked costs but so be it. I am more annoyed that the seller has disappeared. Not a good experience for me as a total newbie to ebay. And the ebay "help" really doesn't.

Mentor3 weeks ago · EditedThe money back guarantee applies to guest purchases, if you don't want to pay the postage you can claim item not received. If you get it and it's not what you ordered you can do an item not as described claim.
Your seller probably thought free post meant free to them, it doesn't.
