iPhone blacklisted 6 months after purchase

Last October I bought an iPhone from someone who I believe is a verified seller in the sense that they’ve sold over 400 items and have been on eBay for over 10 years. The phone was new/unused and I registered it with Apple the day it was delivered. I’ve used the phone for 6 months without any issues at all. Then on 12th March 2026 my phone was blocked. I called Apple then visited one of their stores and they explained that my phone was blacklisted. I then found out that the blacklist was created by an insurance company. I spoke to them and they said I should send them a proof of purchase and proof of usage, both listing the IMEI number. Well the eBay purchase doesn’t show the IMEI number and my network provider states quite categorically that they cannot provide a proof of usage with IMEI number because the phone is blacklisted. Catch 22. I’m still in touch with the seller but he doesn’t think there is anything wrong with the sale to me. So I’m kind of stuck. I have the iPhone but it can’t make or receive calls. So I’m here to ask if there is anything I can claim from eBay? I’m obviously well outside the 30 day window so anyone got any suggestions? Thanks

It's not clear whether "they" means the Apple store or the insurance company?
If not knowing the IMEI number is the problem, try Googling "How to find IMEI number without phone". For example, as it was bought as new check the original device packaging/box, the purchase invoice, or your network provider's online portal.

OP5 months agoHi, I have the iPhone in question in my possession so know the IMEI number. The issue is that I can’t get purchase and usage statements that include said IMEI number.

If it was UK business seller, contact citizens advice.
