Incorrect Automaric Refund
Summary: redaxe1879 sought advice regarding an automatic refund from eBay for a returned item incorrectly identified as faulty by the buyer. redaxe1879 was unable to retest the product within the allocated time due to work commitments. Upon testing, the item was found to be functional, suggesting user error by the buyer. john1297576 explained that eBay's procedure favors the buyer in such situations, and appeals likely wouldn't change the outcome. redaxe1879 expressed frustration over eBay's lack of response and the higher return postage fee.
Seeking community advice on incorrect refund please.
EBay automatically refunded a returned item incorrectly identified as faulty by the buyer. I hadn’t been able to retest the returned product in the few days allocated as I was away with work. EBay automatically refunded and charged for return posting. (Which was more than outward posting which is interesting). On getting back home I tested the product and it works fine. Classic user error. Neither the buyer nor eBay are responding to my enquiries. It’s interesting that eBay can’t respond to my query, despite all their resources on 24x7, in the time I was given to retest the product (as a casual occasional user of eBay).

Mentor1 month agoIf a seller doesn't respond within 3 business days to an eBay return, eBay will refund the buyer, that's just how it works.

Mentor1 month agoThat is the way it works, once buyer opens a not as described case, seller has 3 days to supply reply paid label. If not buyer escalates and ebay takes over.
Buyer will always win even if you had been able to test returned item, appealing would not change the outcome.
The only good thing is that you can sell again, sometimes ebay refunds without item being returned.
