Import Duty/Tax
Looking for the correct information regarding a purchase from the USA delivered to UK.
UK customs say VAT and Import duty on used items with a value of less than£135 are exempt.
I want to buy a second hand/used sun glasses frames costing $25. Seller says I have to add another $20 for tax and shipping is this correct. eBay's listings show a different amount on every listing.
Hence I'm looking for clarification anyone been through this?

Mentor1 month agoYou will pay vat regardless at checkout so $25 is apx £20 you will pay in the region of £4, plus the additional postage. Depending on how item is being sent eg ISP or standard airmail will be the additional cost. Unfortunately the USA is expensive for postage both ways these days.

Mentor1 month ago£135 is the figure that Customs Duty kicks in.
Import VAT is payable on items up to £135 and is usually collected in advance at checkout by eBay, which is great because it saves the £8 admin fee that Royal Mail would charge.

Mentor1 month agoYou will pay 20% VAT, no exemptions.
If seller sends via GSP you pay VAT and international postage separately.
