Import charges
I made a purchase from Italy, read the description and charges fully but no mention of import fees. I have now been asked to pay another £74 upon delivery! Surely this should have been mentioned when making the purchase!?

Mentor1 week agoI suspect the cost of the item was over £135? Which means those fees would have note been added to the original invoice, however as Tobias mentions it would have stated 'Import fees may apply'. I suspect within that charge from your carrier you also will have a handling fee.

Mentor1 week agoAs the importer of goods, it is up to you to know the regulations, not seller.
(I know it can be confusing).
Listing would have said, "Import fees may apply".
If you refuse pay these fees, you invalidate ebay MBG and will lose item & money.

OP1 week agoThanks. I do understand about import fees but I thought it would have been added at checkout as there was no mention of it in the ad or the description which I had to google translate from Italian

Mentor1 week agoIf seller used GSP, then ebay invoice you for sold item, postage & import fees.
If seller sent direct, UK carrier will collect fees.

Mentor1 week agoFor an item of that value you'd be paying it this end because Customs Duty will kick in, and eBay can't collect that.
For items below £135, if import tax is being collected at eBay checkout it will be itemised there.
