IMEI blocked on MiFi device
Summary: niel0001 purchased a ZTE U50 Mobile Router from an online seller, which was later blocked by the network provider as its IMEI was marked as stolen or unpaid. Despite being outside the return period, they reached out to the seller for a refund but were refused. They are now seeking advice on how to proceed.
In mid July 2026 I purchased a ZTE U50 Mobile Router from an eBay seller. The lisiting said it worked on EE and SIMs using the EE network. It was branded "Three". It was purchased for use in our caravan with a 1p SIM which uses EE's network. . In late August / beginning of September the ZTE U50 stopped working and showed red bars instead of the expected blue signal strength bars. After much investigation I discovered the router's IMEI had been blocked by Three UK. I visited a Three shop and they told me the item was probably either stolen or obtained from Three but not fully paid off. Although it was by now outside the return period, I contacted the seller, explained the IMEI block and asked to return and obtain a refund. The seller did not immediately reply but after I left a comment warning others the seller did reply and refused the return. I'm now not sure what to do. Any advice?
