I was scammed on eBay and I can’t get my money back. The scammer is being protected by eBay.
One method of scamming is that after you pay for the product (in my case an iPhone 16 Pro Max for), the scammer sends whatever they want to a different address. When they send the parcel (Royal Mail), they obtain a tracking number as proof that they shipped something. But instead of arriving to me, it arrives wherever they decide to send it.
When you make a claim saying you didn’t receive the package, they show you the tracking number and then ask me to prove that I didn’t receive it. It’s crazy how can you prove you didn’t receive something?
But the seller also has no proof that I received the package, other than the tracking number. And if I try to track it, I can’t, because my postcode doesn’t work with it.
I called Royal Mail several times, but it was a waste of time. All you get from them are apologies saying the parcel is lost, and they advise you to contact the seller to get your money back. And as for the seller — he’s gone, he doesn’t answer anymore.
eBay also closed the claim because there was a tracking number, and that’s how a completely legal scam can happen on eBay.

Mentor8 months agoThis is a current and relatively common scam involving high end tech.
The usual process in these cases is to ask RM to confirm in writing that the address on the tracking was not yours. To do this you have to tell them what yours is and they say that doesn't match the tracking.
Then the seller doesn't have protection against an ebay case.
I am confused that RM have said it's lost when tracking obviously says it's delivered. Are you sure that's what they said?

·8 months agoIf you have failed to get a refund through Ebay, you should try your payment source - bank/credit card/Paypal.
Start a payment dispute on the grounds that you have paid for an item and not received it.
Hopefully, they will look closely at the tracking and see that the phone was not delivered to you.
