I was asked to cancel a purchase by a seller and lost money
I made a purchase for $1450 after a few days the seller informed me that the product I bought was defective and that I must cancel the sale. I did as I was told but when I received my refund it was $150 short. The package was never shipped. There was a currency exchange but the time between me paying and getting a refund was only 1 week, this cant all be exchange rate fluctuations can it?
Why did this happen?

Mentor3 weeks agoI wouldn't imagine so, (I could be wrong) is it duty or vat or something like that not being refunded?

Mentor3 weeks agoThe seller should've cancelled the sale if the item was defective, not you. It wouldn't make any difference to the amount received though, you are entitled to the full amount back that you paid via eBay checkout.
You may have to contact eBay and ask them where the $150 has gone, and it does require a bit of determination to get hold of them. I’ve found that the best route to contact eBay Customer Services is via the link below where you can call them or request a call back if you’re using the app (if you’re using desktop you’ll need to go round the houses with AI and start a chat then keep typing ‘agent’ until you get the option to live chat with a CS rep or to have a call back):
