I think I’ve been scammed
Summary: fashionamira ordered a refurbished phone from a seller on eBay for their mother, but when the phone was finally opened after three months, it began showing battery errors and overheating. The seller was contacted but was suspicious due to the delay in reporting the issue, yet agreed to check the phone and possibly refund. However, they claimed the phone was fully functional without addressing the initial concerns. fashionamira feels stuck and seeks advice, particularly about initiating a dispute through eBay or involving their card provider, as advised by **peaseblossom**.
I ordered a phone from a seller on eBay as refurbished for my mother.
Long story short it arrived I gifted it to her and she never opened it … kept on delaying it. Until 3 months later I told her she had to open it check the phone and set it up.
Upon switching it on and trying to set it up the phone started displaying error messages to do with the battery not verified by Apple and a mismatch on the phone. The phone was also burning up after 10 minutes of being on and use hands were left red!
I contacted the seller straight away with screenshots explaining the situation they said it was suspicious that I’m only reporting this 3 months later which tbh I totally understand and would think the same. My mum is scared of using this phone and I feel so uncomfortable to keep it bear in mind it is brand spanking new mo different to how I received. I explained this all to the seller and they sent some parra graph with their warranty / guarantee policy would’ve been nice if I got that at the beginning but they were vague and said send it back we will check it and if it can’t be fixed we will refund you. I send it back and they’ve said there is nothing wrong with it and fully functional. We don’t want this phone and do not trust this seller anymore they sent a report showing the checks they carried out and everything being fine but that means nothing since they didn’t even address my concern. I have no reason to lie and I there’s no way someone can fabricate a fault in a phone so I’m so consumed as to what they think ive done to it. I just want my money back so I can buy my mum a different phone it’s a lot of money and they are being so uncooperative I paid with PayPal through eBay I don’t know if a dispute is the right thing to do since I know nothing about phones so there’s a huge information gap please can someone help or suggest something. The phone is with them and I haven’t provided an address for them to return it back to and I don’t want it or need a phone that burns in our hands and displays these messages. Pls someone help!
