How to use Royal Mail Special Delivery with £2,500 compensation on eBay?

Hi, I’m hoping someone with experience selling higher-value items can help.
I’m looking to enable UK delivery on a Cartier bracelet listed at around £2,900. I’d like to send it via Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed by 1pm with the £2,500 compensation option.
However, when I edit the postage options on eBay, the highest Royal Mail Special Delivery option available shows only £750 protection.
Is there a way to select the £2,500 compensation level through eBay?
Alternatively, can I select Royal Mail Special Delivery on the listing, then after the item sells purchase the £2,500-cover service directly from Royal Mail and upload the tracking number to eBay manually?
I mainly want to make sure this would still meet eBay’s delivery/seller protection requirements.
Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has actually done this with a high-value item. Thanks!

MentorAug 14, 2026 at 11:53 AMIf you're listing your watch in fixed price Buy It Now format or in Auction format with a start price of over £750 you should see an option to set your own Custom Postage.
Whilst you can protect yourself from an item not received claim, you still have to accept a return if your buyer decides that their watch isn't as described. You're quite new to selling, so be very careful here. There's an old adage that you should only list what you can afford to lose.
