How to claim for item damaged by Royal Mail

I have been contacted by a buy who has received my item but it has been water damaged during transit. I have allowed the return and the buyer will be sending me the item back shortly. But how do I claim for the damage done?
I used eBay Simple Delivery which defaulted to Royal Mail Tracked 48. I have a tracking number and photo's of the damage but when I go onto the Royal Mail website to claim for the damage, it says that according to the tracking number I am unable to claim and to contact the sender. But I am the sender so where am I going wrong?

Mentor3 weeks agoDid the buyer open a proper return case, damaged in transit?
If done properly the refund is made by ebay, not you the seller. It is covered by the 30 day money back guarantee

OP3 weeks agoThe buyer selected something like item ot suitable for intended process and this being my first return I didnt know any better and have arranged for them to return the item.
Whats my next move? Because eBay is expecting me to refund the item when I get it back. Perhaps I need to contact ebay customer services?

Mentor3 weeks agoIf the buyer is willing to contact ebay they might change the reason for the return.

Mentor3 weeks agoIf the item is eligible for Simple Delivery cover and as long as the buyer used the reason "item damaged in delivery" eBay will issue the refund themselves and you keep the original payment. They will not be required to return the item.
