How to cancel postage labels under the "Simple Delivery" setting, with Royal Mail?

I sold 3 items to a single buyer, who promptly paid for all 3 items. eBay combine 2 items onto a single postage label. I was able to pack all 3 items and despatch them, within the limits of the 2 items label. eBay will not allow me to cancel the postage label for the 3rd item, or register it as despatched and refund the purchaser their postage fee, due to me using the "Simple Delivery" service, with Royal Mail.
"eBay Help" have provided me, with the following instructions:
"You: This doesn't appear to clear the despatch and postage label?
eBay Assistant:
To void a shipping label you printed on eBay, follow these steps:
Go to Manage shipping labels.
Find the item and select More Actions, then choose Void.
Choose your reason for voiding the label and optionally add a message for the buyer.
Select Void shipping label.
eBay Assistant:
Note the time limits for voiding labels depending on the carrier:
USPS: 5 days to void; refund approval can take up to 21 days.
UPS: 24 hours to void; unused labels void automatically after 5 days with credit issued.
FedEx: Labels cannot be voided as charges occur upon delivery.

You do need to purchase or request the shipping label before you can void it.
Here is how to void a shipping label you printed on eBay:
Go to Manage shipping labels.
Find the item for which you want to void the label, then select More Actions and choose Void.
Choose your reason for voiding the label and optionally add a message for the buyer.
Select Void shipping label.
eBay Assistant:
To create and print a shipping label, you must first purchase it by selecting the order and filling out the shipping details, then confirm payment and print the label."
After following the instructions that do not match the screen labels, I receive this message:
"Cancel your postage label
Simple Delivery postage labels can't be cancelled. It's recommended you use the label for the following reasons:
Your label is prepaid: It's already been paid for – either by the buyer or by you if free delivery was offered.
Package size will be accepted: The courier will accept your package even if it's larger or heavier than what's shown on the label, as long as it's within their maximum size limits.
No printer needed: Simply save the QR code or barcode to your phone and show it when handing over the package. If you booked courier collection, they'll bring the label to you when picking it up.
Hassle-free protection: Your item is fully covered by eBay from the moment it's scanned until it's delivered. We'll handle any buyer claims or courier issues on your behalf."
So, beware! Ensure that combining all the multiple orders into a single package and the postage label covers all the items. Otherwise, you appear not to be able to cancel the postage label and save the customer excess postage and clear your despatched listing, unless someone knows any different?

Mentor2 weeks agoWith SD where buyer pays postage, any unused labels are refunded to buyer within 30 days.
If you refund buyer, it is out of your pocket.

OP2 weeks agoThank you Tobias. So, pretend that the order has been despatched, by purchasing the Royal Mail label, but do not use it to send the item that you have enclosed, with other items? eBay marks the sellers account that the item has been despatched and the buyer's postage is refunded to them after 30 days? No black marks, downgrading to either the seller's, or the buyer's accounts?

So buyer can still open item not received case,
So you have to refund buyer.

OP2 weeks agoI understand the risk of that, but I think that my buyer, who in this instance is a repeat buyer and with whom I have correspondence, is unlikely to open an item not received case against me. The purchase price wasn't exactly exorbitant either, £2-50! ;¬) Again thank you for your time to pass on your knowledge, I shall be more careful next time I combine items, not to despatch before ensuring all the items are covered by the one label.
