How does one use verifymyage to buy items like a hacksaw blade!
Ebay has an automatic age restriction for bladed articles - makes sense until it also applies to hacksaw blades. Their age verification is based on credit cards - but then they will NOT use Amex to verify age only Visa and mastercard. But all my Visa are cards are debit cards. The help pages suggest I can use verifymyage as a third party product at checkout to set up my account as being over 18, but when I try to but items this option is not provided. Chat bots doesn't help and one cannot contact a real person - Help!

Mentor5 months agoeBay only accepts credit cards for age verification registered with Visa or Mastercard they do not accept Amex for verification or purchases.
Verifymyage is used for alcohol and vapes which can only be sold by registered business sellers, i don't think it is available for private sellers to use to sell bladed items.

Mentor5 months agoeBay only accepts CCs now. Anything remotely bladed is affected. Your only alternative is to ask a friend with a CC to buy it for you.

Mentor5 months agoCurrently, only a (single monthly payment) Credit Card entry to confirm your age is acceptable to eBay --- nothing else will do !! --- an everyday use Debit Card will not be accepted. Ask family or friend to purchase on your behalf perhaps ?.

OP5 months agoBUT I DO have a credit card - its an AMEX credit card. They don't accept this. the website suggest that on the payment page I can use a third party age verification site such as verifymyage and the don't tell me how to use this. using a friend to buy something for me everytime I buy anything remotely sharp as a tool (and even non-"sharp" items such as hacksaw blades if hardly a solution and is technically fraud as I am using someone else's details to verify my age.
Interestingly, when I contacted EBAy they confirmed that they know I am over 18, but still will not allow me to buy such articles, even when their system shows that I used to use an AMEX credit card when they allowed it!

Mentor5 months agoThe help pages say that only certain items are open to verifymyage, they then mention alcohol. I suspect that it is only alcohol that can be verified this way.
