how do you confirm a return when you are dropping the item off

I bought an item with collection only, the item does not work so I am having to take it back, how can I confirm the return as it is not being posted.

Is it a large item?Have you opened an eBay return?I'd be a little concerned here because unless the seller issues a refund you while you're standing on their doorstep you'll have no proof that the item has been returned.

By "dropping a faulty item off" you are risking your protection under eBay's money back guarantee.

eBay requires postal tracking proof of return, and it's the seller's responsibility to send you a prepaid return label or arrange for tracked collection themselves. eBay does not accept self-return as delivered.

If you "drop it off" and the seller doesn't refund you, you won't be protected by eBay's money back guarantee. You need to ask the seller to refund you through eBay before returning it, or else to refund you in cash on delivery.

You can't confirm return of a collection item but make sure you get the refund from the seller then the return case on ebay will close.
