Hi - I just purchased a book for Christmas that was due to arrive to me from Texas by 24th December.
Hi - I live in the UK and ordered a second hand book from America (described in good condition) to arrive by 24th December. It failed to turn up in time and so useless for Christmas and instead it arrived on the 29th. I thought I’d keep it for next year but when it arrived smashed and grazed I requested a refund. As the supplier is a third party, they have only refunded me the value of the book £3.66
I paid £14.29 including postage.
I have messaged them and they state as a third party - they are unable to see what I paid and I need to take it up directly with EBay. This is despite me screenshotting my payment record and sending it to them. I cannot get hold of eBay - so difficult to find contact phone details! Does anyone have any experience of this and if so - is it fair that I have to cover the postage of the damaged book? If not, who should foot the bill please?

Mentor7 months agoYou should have checked sellers feedback before buying, not very good.
I don't see why you can't open ebay case now.

This is correct way, seller either supplies returns label or refunds sold price.
Ebay would refund the rest.
If no case, do it now.

OP7 months agoI have not had any experience of this situation previously and as I’d struggled to receive the book from them I contacted them directly to chase. It had gone to the wrong address in America! So as I already had an open dialogue with them I thought it was the correct thing to ask them for a refund directly. Having just spoken with eBay customer service, they tell me I was wrong to do this and as I have just received a partial refund, they cannot open a case against then. This said, they have looked at my chain of messaging and seen they did not offer me the chance to agree the refund figure. If so I’d have told them to hold off and got in touch with eBay to complain. My issue has now been forwarded to another team in ‘International’. I got ‘told off’ several times by eBay customer service though for dealing direct! I had no idea I was wrong to do this. Sadly I feel this may be the end of a 30 year plus relationship with eBay. It’s just too stressful now. Another online platform (not naming) has had almost daily business from me as their return policy is so simple and trustworthy.

You would have known if you had looked at eBay's money back guarantee. There is a link to this in every listing and the procedure is designed to be simple.
The only reason you found eBay's return procedure "stressful" compared to another online platform is that you correctly followed the other platform's returns procedure, but didn't even read eBay's.
