Help with rejecting counterfeit items
Summary: amanda30590 shared their experience of buying Adidas trainers on eBay, which turned out to be counterfeit and arrived without a box, despite being advertised as new. They reported the issue to eBay, but their claim was rejected by an AI review and an appeal was also unsuccessful. **peaseblossom** and *vyolla* offered advice, questioning the timing of the return initiation and suggesting that typically eBay sides with buyers, especially if reported within 30 days and as 'doesn't match description or photos.'
Hi, I'm hoping that someone can help. I purchased some Adidas trainers for my wife, advertised as new and boxed. I payed full price (she has same pair, but in a different colour that were bought from a shop and cost the same).
When they were delivered there was no box and are clearly counterfeit. I could list the issues, but I don't want to bore everyone!
I reported it to Ebay, they said AI had reviewed it and rejected my claim, so I appealed...rejected again.
The seller is not responding to me either.
What can I do?

Mentor1 month agoIt's not clear what you mean by "reported it to eBay"?
What you should have done is to open a case under eBay's money back guarantee. The system is automated and it's normally almost impossible for a buyer to lose if they use the procedure correctly.
If you didn't do this, there is a link to the guarantee in every listing.
If you did open a case and it was rejected in this way this would be highly unusual. If so, let us know more about what happened.

Mentor1 month ago · EditedIt's nigh on impossible for a buyer to lose out on eBay.
If you opened an eBay return within 30 days of receipt and selected the 'doesn't match description or photos' reason then I can't see why you lost out, do you know what went wrong?
If you paid with a debit/credit card or Apple Pay you have 120 days to issue a not as described chargeback, but may require proof that the trainers are counterfeit.

Mentor1 month agoebay normally side with buyers so did you start the return after ebay's 30 day deadline for claims?
