Help with buyer dishonesty
Summary: julesbollyqueen expressed frustration over dishonest buyers who return damaged items and still leave negative feedback. They described instances where a buyer damaged a cashmere sweater and another buyer returned then repurchased toddler bedding. *vyolla* suggested adding problematic buyers to a Blocked Buyer list and reporting issues with photographic evidence. julesbollyqueen appreciated the advice and shared concerns that current protections favor buyers, leaving sellers feeling unsupported.
Seller protection for dishonest buyers.
I am so disheartened, despite doing my absolute best to provide quality items and service, I recently experienced a sale where I shipped a brand new cashmere sweater new with tags, checked by me and immaculate when posting to buyer, only to receive pictures of my item with literally clean cut holes snipped with scissors sent with reason for returning item. Clearly this buyer didn't want to keep item and didnt want to pay the relatively small postage for return. Why destroy my item and post bad feedback?? My other experience was a new set of white company toddler bedding absolute delightful fresh and new in packaging. Customer claimed old stock and looked damaged. On return I refunded the buyer and relisted immediately as item was perfect despite having had to fund the postage. Two weeks later same buyer bought it again. I challenged her for a reason why and she casually claimed she had changed her mind!!! What are we meant to do!!

As regards the cashmere sweater, as soon as you received the damaged item back you should've reported the buyer and added photos to show the damage.
Re the bedding set, you could've reported the buyer for abusing eBay's returns system.

OP1 week agoMany thanks for your reply. I'm thankfully for the advice and will follow this going forward. I've had so few bad experiences I guess I'm lacking in the best way to deal with them hence my reaching out to you guys. I feel bad buyers have too many resources providing to them by Ebay to make dishonest claims. As a seller I don't feel protected or supported. Ebay just want to subdue sellers in to submission. Is thus really fair?

No, it isn't fair but this is the reality of selling on eBay. The money back guarantee is massively weighted in favour of the buyer.
If eBay accepts your report that the item was deliberately damaged by the customer they may or may not return all or part of your payment. But it will be at eBay's own expense, and the buyer will be allowed to keep your refund.
I'm happy to stand corrected if any responder knows better, but I don't think we've ever heard of eBay taking money back from a dishonest buyer, as they do all the time from sellers. The user agreement doesn't even seem to allow for this - which I've said for a long time it should do.
