Having to return items bought together seperatley?

I bought four items from an eBay business, they arrived in the same package. I want to keep two items and return two, the seller insists that the items are returned in separate parcels. As I have to pay postage this doubles the cost of return. Is this acceptable? Thanks in advance of any help you can give.

eBay also require return items to be sent separately. If you send them together you risk only getting one refund. eBay go by the tracking of each item to enforce a refund.
