Hatching eggs
I was stopped from listing Poultry Hatching eggs early Spring 2025 as being against ebay 'live animal' policies. Why then are there still over 4,000 listings for hatching eggs as of October. When I queried this after I had my advert removed, I was told that it would take a little time for all adverts to be removed !! Doesn't seem to me that any effort has been made to remove any more ads so can I assume ebay has done a U turn based on the fact that they didn't understand the difference between a live animal and an egg which has the 'potential' to develop in to a chick if (and only if) it is (a) fertilised and (b) incubated ?

Mentor10 months agoIt might help if you were correctly registered as a business seller. I do not know if it makes any difference, but business sellers would be quick to report a private seller taking their business.

OP10 months agoI keep a small flock of rare breed poultry and sell very limited numbers of
hatching eggs. I am classed as a hobby breeder. I had been selling eggs on
ebay for several years and it was only this year that ebay removed my
adverts stating that policies had changed and hatching eggs would no longer
be allowed on the site. It wouldn't be necessary for anyone to report a
'hobby breeder' and as ebay state on their policy that hatching eggs are not
allowed to be advertised, all the (4,000+) adverts should have been removed
by now.

Mentor10 months agoI know that it's a moot point at this moment in time, but just in case anyone else reads this thread or is selling elsewhere; there isn't any such status as a 'hobby breeder' when it comes to online selling and consumer regs.
A private seller is one who is just selling off their own personal items such clothes from their wardrobe, bits from their loft/garage etc.
A Business seller is someone who buys, makes or grows items to sell on (eggs would come under the 'growing' bit). They need to be registered as a business to meet the requirements of UK law.
