Handling Chargebacks: When Items Are Still Undelivered
Summary: law.72 initiated a discussion about dealing with chargeback claims where buyers assert items are faulty before delivery. **peaseblossom** mentioned it might be challenging if it's a direct chargeback and expressed some skepticism, while law.72 clarified the item was collected after the claim, questioning the buyer's actions. *vyolla* noted the lack of protection against such chargebacks and mentioned a potential dispute fee charged by eBay.
Hi everyone,
I wanted to open a discussion about a situation that some of us might encounter in online transactions. Have you ever faced a chargeback claim where the buyer asserted an item was faulty, but the item was still with the courier and hadn't been delivered yet?
What are some best practices for dealing with such scenarios? How do you communicate with the buyer and handle the claim with the payment service provider? Additionally, are there any preventive measures to consider in future transactions to avoid similar issues?
I'd love to hear about your experiences and any advice on effectively managing these complex situations.

Mentor1 week agoThere isn't any protection against a not as described chargeback.
What's the value of the item? Only asking because eBay charge sellers a £16.80 dispute fee unless they accept the chargeback and a refund is then issued.

Mentor2 weeks agoIt sounds as though the buyer received the item even if the tracking says not. I take it this is a direct chargeback, not through ebay and more than 30 days later? If so there is little you can do.
PS. You've got to love AI (not). No one else would use the word "assert". 😁

OP1 week agoThey did not receive it,
They opened the dispute same day as purchase,
They item was delivered to collection point 2 days later,
And collected same day as delivered to the collection point,
Why would you then collect a item that you have already said is faulty?
Beside the point they opened dispute before receiving,
And then collected,
This must be the dumbest criminal on the planet,
At least wait till you get it before claiming it is faulty right?????
