Guarantee/Warranty offered by sellers outwith the Ebay 90 day refund guarantee
Summary: stableclassics faced an issue with a car battery purchase from eBay, which had a 2-year guarantee but failed after 18 months. The seller offered a refund as a goodwill gesture since eBay supports only a 30-day money-back guarantee. However, stableclassics struggled to share personal information through eBay's platform due to message restrictions. papso22 suggested contacting the seller directly using their business details listed on current postings. red_magpie explained that only business sellers can provide contact information in the UK, and warranties are often unreliable on eBay after 30 days, highlighting the importance of considering guarantee terms when purchasing high-value items.
Bought a car battery via E bay with a 2 year guarantee. After 18 months (so outside the 90 day refund period) the battery failed. The seller has offered to honour the guarantee (as a goodwill gesture) and refund me via paypal as he is unable to refund via E bay as per the 90 day refund period rules. However every time I try to message any of my details via E bay the message is blocked as it contains personal information etc. Have tried sending a photo of my details as well ! So has anyone else had this issue or is the Ebay default that there can only be a 90 day guarantee........in which case a guarantee or warranty longer than 90 days, and in this case 2 years, is a misrepresentation? If there is genuinely no way of a seller honouring their guarantees, longer than 90 days, via E bay it may makes me reconsider buying through E bay, especially large value new items where the guarantee is important. All previous message correspondence is on my account. Cheers Tim

Private i.e. non-business users are not allowed to give any contact info. in their listings, or through eBay messages - except for a short window following a transaction on eBay. This is to prevent users from arranging private, off-eBay sales to evade eBay's fees.
If your seller is willing to honour their guarantee, you're lucky. Warranties are often worthless for items bought on eBay. One of the most commonly asked questions here is about sellers who don't want to know about warranty claims. eBay has no interest once its own 30 day money back guarantee has expired.

The seller's business contact details should be on their current listings, use those to contact them outside of ebay.
