GSP Pitney Bowes not shipping items
Does anyone have a phone number to a human being at GSP Pitney Bowes UK? I am in the USA and bought an item shipped from the UK who ships with Global Shipping Partner (GSP) Pitney Bowes. It was a pair of antique 1938 motorcycle carburetors. PB held the item for 10 days and then returned my payment due to the item being "RESTRICTED", even though there are ZERO restrictions by US customs for importation. They (Ebay? Pitney Bowes?) relisted the item on Ebay with a different seller (liquidator) so I bought the item a SECOND TIME, requesting that the seller either ship directly to me OR to ship to an address in the UK which I would provide, but they would ONLY ship with GSP. Suspecting the same outcome, I called and emailed Pitney Bowes UK six times, and they refused to reply to me. I called and wrote to Ebay over a dozen times and it was totally futile. For now a second time, Pitney Bowes has refused to ship to me as they deem it "Restricted".
Any suggestions for me?

Ebay/PB are unlikely to change their mind.

OP6 months agoIndeed I am! My 1938 motorcycle will not run with this item so I must keep going. There MUST be a human being at the GSP Pitney Bowes shipping or document department to speak to. I just need an "in".

Mentor6 months agoHaving an 'in' will make no difference.
If you are sure the item can be sent to, and imported into, the US, then you will need to persuade a seller not to use Global Shipping and do a direct export themselves.
We have no PB contact details we can give you.

These items are not allowed on aircraft.
So unless it is sent by ship, I doubt any carrier will accept it.
You are not the 1st buyer to report this.

OP6 months agoThese carburetors have not been on a motorcycle since 1938. There are no gas fumes. If I was able to contact Pitney Bowes, or they would reply to Ebay on my behalf, to explain what the restriction it could be remedied. Both sellers were of no assistance at all.

PB have clearly decided these are restricted, that won't change.

OP6 months agoAntique motorcycle carburetors are not banned from import into the USA, especially if they are for vehicles at least 25 years old. While complete, modern non-compliant vehicles face strict U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (.gov) and NHTSA National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (.gov) regulations, replacement parts for classic, vintage, or antique bikes are exempted from these restrictions.

That doesn't mean that they are not prohibited items for carriage - either internally or internationally. Appliances that contain or have contained flammable liquids can present risks in transit.
Maybe your had not been on a motorcycle since 1938, but carriers can't inspect every item individually. The carriage of used fuel tanks and even antique petrol cigarette lighters do present risks and are subject to various forms of restriction.
If you were to hunt around for a specialist carrier you could probably find one, but unless you have someone on the ground in the UK this may not be easy.
