First INAD how long should i wait for them to open the case.
I have had my first INAD and it was my fault as I did not check the item fully.
It was a shirt that turned out to have epaulettes on it which I was unaware of. It was a brand new shirt and I did not want to open it lesson learnt on that one!
The buyer came back to me and stated that it was not mentioned in the listing which it was not as I did not know they were on there. I don't want the shirt back to be honest and I have asked him to open a return case and state INAD.
How long do I wait for him to open the case and what should I do if he does not open one. Should I chase him to do it or just leave it but what happens if i just leave it then he decides to go to Ebay and state that I have not bothered to try and resolve it.
Can any one give me any advice.

OP11 months agoanyone had this before where someone has ceom back to you on receipt and said item is not as described (i have admited that is the case as it was my error) asked the buyer to start a INAD on the date of receipt which was about the 5 October, he has today emailed to say that he did as i requested, which he has not as there are no open return cases and saying that i have not done as promised. Emailed him to ask if he had opened the case and also contact ebay for advice, i emailed buyer again and daid i had been advised by ebay to get him to open a case and also offered a part refund if the item could be made of use. have not heard back yet.
I am a bit confused as to why, if he was not happy with the item why he has not opened a case and seems to be blaming me for not doing what i said. i would do once the case was opened.
Any advice

Mentor1 year agoPlease feel free to ask as many questions as you like, anything that happens the first time procedures maybe unclear, especially with eBay procedures! 🙂
If they do not open an eBay case within that 30 day timeline, they could if they wish, later open a case with their payment provider, a charge back can be made up to 120 past purchase. Bit silly if they proceed down that route, as they have a clear and quick reason for a refund to open a case with eBay.

OP1 year agoOk thanks.
He seemed pretty quick to tell me it was not what he wanted (but as I said that was my fault so have no issues on that score) now seems to be dallying doing the return

How you deal with this may affect the feedback they leave, so don't hassle the buyer.
If they want a refund, they will open a case.

OP1 year agoI am beginning to think that this buyer thought I was a soft touch.
For someone who had unpacked it within half hour of it being delivered and in their words were "very disappointed" as soon as you ask them to do a returns INAD you do not hear from them. If it was me I would have done it straight away. I don't know if he thought I was just going to do a refund without a return request, it may be my first one but I have been on ebay long enough not to just do that and got advise from ebay before asking him to do the return.
If you block someone can they still do a return? I am not worried about getting the return more concerned that he may try to buy something else and try it again. Unfortunately because sellers cannot leave anything but positive feedback you cannot see if he has possibly done this before.

Mentor1 year agoYou're over thinking this!
They have done what before? He has received an item you agree is not as described. Why he's not opening a case asap may be for many reasons. It could be a time factor, it's not a very important factor for them to deal with now perhaps. You state you have ' been on eBay long enough....' maybe he hasn't, and doesn't know how to open that case, we do get many questions from peeps here just how do we manage a return.
They may think the effort of repacking and posting it back too much trouble, who knows where their PO is, or their availability to reach it, so many reasons why there is no case yet.
You can block them from buying again if you wish, link below, but in my humble opinion they have done nothing wrong for you to do this.
As I, and others have advised, you have correctly apologised for your error, and asked them to open an eBay case for the return and a full refund, you need to wait and see if they do just that.
If you still wish to block them from future purchases, add their ID here:

Mentor1 year agoYou have done the right thing, that is, sending the buyer a message to open that case for INAD. Do not chase him further.
He cannot complain to eBay as the rules are straightforward, receive an item not as described and you have 30 days to open that case for a full refund, this is exactly what you have advised them to do. Messages, if need be, can be read by eBay Customer Services.
Hold fire, see what he does.

OP1 year agoThanks. As this is the first one I am a bit un certain about all the process. I have been very lucky as a buyer never to have had to do a return or INAD so all very new to me!

·1 year agoThe buyer can't go to Ebay and claim you haven't tried to resolve this - Ebay would tell them to open a return.
Don't contact the buyer again.
Wait until they open a return then you can, if that is what you want, refund without getting the shirt back.
